As the world looks ahead to 2030, employability has become a defining issue for governments, businesses, and individuals alike. The rise of the Fifth Industrial Revolution, marked by the fusion of advanced technologies with human-centred values, is reshaping the global workforce at an unprecedented pace. Automation, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation are no longer distant concepts; they are actively redefining the skills and mindsets required to thrive.
"Added to this is the fact that South Africa faces a pressing challenge; there is a growing problem of unequal access to connectivity, which is creating a digital divide between rural and urban areas, leaving rural students disadvantaged with fewer digital skills compared to their urban peers. Despite this, tertiary education providers are taking the lead in preparing students for the future World of Work," says Dr Rebecca Naidoo: MANCOSA Academic Manager.
