Thirty years ago, at 28, I started Bullion with a plastic patio table, a fax machine, floppy disks, determination and the belief that I could build something meaningful.
There was no boardroom, no grand business plan and no established client base. Just a leap of faith.
The PR world was very different then. Media releases were faxed, documents were printed for meetings, floppy disks were labelled by hand and newsrooms received piles of paper in fax trays. Broadcast interviews meant clients had to be physically present in studio, often at 5am, and we accompanied them every step of the way.
My first pitch was to Dairy Belle. I walked into the Marketing Director’s office with no clients of my own and little more than a promise to deliver. When I got home, a fax from Gerhard Meyer was waiting in the tray. He had appointed me to the account.
That first opportunity changed everything.
