Short-term Insurance

The Ombudsman for Short-term Insurance is advising homeowners to review their household insurance policies due to load shedding no longer being classified as an unexpected event. The exclusion is because of the schedules provided by Eskom to warn homeowners of the planned power cuts. The Ombudsman says most insurers have also changed the cover afforded in relation to power surges. And many insurance companies are now reviewing the risk of covering power surges. Edite Teixeira-Mckinon, CEO of the Ombudsman for Short-term Insurance, elaborates.
